Excerpts from an interview with Eva Hart, who was seven years old when she boarded RMS Titanic. She lost her father when the ship sank in the early hours of April 15, 1912, one hundred years to this day.
He was one of around 1,500 who died when Titanic sank; this number was disproportionately made up of male crew members and male third-class passengers, and, while the “women and children first” policy was certainly carried out, more than twenty times as many third-class female passengers died as first-class female passengers.
(There is also a longer interview here.)
